Huambo
The Highland Route
Six days climbing from Luanda to the central highlands: Waku Kungo, Bailundo, Huambo and the roof of Angola.
You climb by road to seventeen hundred metres and the air changes. We cross the farms of Waku Kungo, go up to Bailundo to meet the soba's court and the history of the Ovimbundu kingdom, and reach Huambo — the city drawn from scratch and rebuilt by the highlands. We see the Chianga agricultural station, the workshops of the Benguela Railway and, for those who want it, Mount Môco, the highest point in the country. We fly back, so as not to repeat six hundred kilometres.
